Schools Library ServiceSheffield Schools Library Service is a vibrant and proactive specialist provider of the most up to date materials for teachers and educationalists. We have access to all newly published children’s materials supporting both curriculum needs and reading for pleasure. Our aim is for quality, cost effectiveness (as book prices increase) and easy access to our service. We pride ourselves on a friendly, helpful and speedy response to your needs. We have a well-earned reputation for our specialist advisory work in schools, including the planning, maintenance and development of effective library and learning resource areas. This year we have undertaken a number of stock projects in schools as well as two high profile author visits. We also provide opportunities to be involved in a range of exciting reading development initiatives and promotion projects where children meet authors and illustrators including the Sheffield Children’s Book Award, and YARN Review magazine, all of which help to stimulate imagination and enhance skills. 2008 is the 2nd National Year of Reading, and we are planning to make it special with a full programme of events and activities to celebrate reading and involve all schools in encouraging children and their families to become enthusiastic lifelong readers. How Schools Will Benefit From The Service
What Our Customers Say Invaluable! couldn't work without you. (Teacher, Greystones School) I love using this service! The children greatly benefit from the resource, staff are very friendly. (Teacher, Whiteways School) Comments from Sheffield Children's Book Awards participants: Raises awareness of what "real authors" look like! Inspiring children to feel they too can become writers. Children involved have been very keen and all these were children with little encouragement from home. Encourages children to become "critical" readers. Working in a school I appreciate how the Sheffield Children’s Book Award encourages students to read new and interesting literature. If you tell them that it's a Book Award book they're more likely to want to read it, the power of the Award! All the students who took part from our school this year really enjoyed the whole process of reading, reviewing and attending the awards." (Librarian, Secondary School) “I endorse the excellent work of the Schools Library Service, it goes from strength to strength” (Jonathan Crossley-Holland, Executive Director, Children & Young People’s Directorate)
