Services to schools 2007/8

The Assets Team provides a spectrum of services, developed in consultation with schools, to assist with the discharge of statutory and other responsibilities for the school land and buildings.
 
The services are provided by qualified and experienced people from the Assets team and our partners including Kier Sheffield LLP, Sheffield Design and Project Management, the Parks Woodlands and Countryside team and H2O Chemicals Ltd.
 
Statutory servicing and testing programme
 
A package of services, tailored to the needs of individual schools, covering the major infrastructure systems and services including:
 
Air heating/handling units
Asbestos management
Chimney/flueway system
Emergency lighting system
Fire alarm system
Fire extinguisher maintenance
Fire risk assessment
Heating system
Legionella risk assessment
Mains electrical system
Passenger/goods lift
Pool heating system
Tree risk assessment and management
 
The cost of this service is individually calculated for each school based on the systems requiring service.  A lump sum equal to the cost of the package is provided in each school's delegated repairs and maintenance budget.
 
Base package
 
This additional service which in 2007/8 costs £500 provides:
 
  • Access to the supply caretaker team
  • Helpdesk service
  • Briefing to newly recruited staff with responsibility for premises management including the headteacher, caretaker or bursar
  • Discount on the project support and consultancy services
 
Project support
 
A client officer service to help schools with all aspects of maintenance and development projects.  The cost of the service is 2.5% of the project cost for schools subscribing to the Base package and 4% for other schools.
 
Consultancy
 
Problem solving and advice to schools on all premises related issues including caretaker recruitment and management, dealing with emergencies, assisting in disputes with contractors and community use.
 
For Base package subscribers the cost of this service is £150 per half day session (max.3 hours) and £275 per full day session (max. 7 hours).  For other schools the costs are £200 and £365 respectively.
