The subscription package for primary schools
 
To access our services, schools subscribe to a package of support that provides an opportunity to buy access to Learning Support at a level which is directly related to the AEN delegation model. Schools who sign up to the primary subscription package will be entitled to receive a specified number of visits from one of our teachers. The number of visits offered through the subscription package reflects the same indicators as the delegation model. This is an attempt to allocate the resources of the Service on the basis of need. However, schools may also buy more or less visits than the number offered.
 
The services offered within this package are varied and can be tailor-made to each school’s specific requirements. We aim to offer a flexible service that is responsive to the needs of each school.
 
The following list gives an indication of the services on offer:
 
 
Support for pupils
 
  • Consultation and advice service for individual pupils or groups of pupils where parents or staff have concerns about their learning.
  • Detailed assessments, reports and advice for individual pupils to support the school’s work in raising pupils’ attainment. This also assists schools in meeting the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice, especially at School Action Plus where advice from outside agencies is needed.
  • For pupils that we have assessed we can offer informal discussions with staff or parents/carers to discuss detailed strategies for supporting pupil needs.
  • Attendance at pupil review meetings.
  • Help with setting up or reviewing Individual Education Plans and/or Intervention Programmes.
  • Monitoring the progress of pupils at planned intervals.
  • Identification and assessment of specific learning difficulties (Dyslexia) and help with planning appropriate interventions.
  • Assessment and advice about pupils with a range of other needs, including motor coordination difficulties/dyspraxia, language and communication difficulties and physical/medical needs.
  • Liaising with other agencies within education, health, and social services about pupil needs.
 
 
Support for SENCOs, Inclusion Managers and other Managers
 
  • Planning meetings to consider school priorities for managing special needs and to agree on future action.
  • Informal discussions about issues relating to individual pupils, groups of pupils, school policies and practices.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the school’s SEN/Inclusion policy.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the SEN procedures in the light of SEN Code of Practice.
  • Advice about implications of the Disability Discrimination Act for the school and its staff.
  • Reviewing the role, deployment and training needs of support staff.
  • Supporting schools in carrying out an audit of need and provision mapping.
  • Choosing, implementing and evaluating intervention programmes for raising the attainment of specific groups of pupils.
  • Contributing to staff meetings or training events related to SEN.
  • Professional development work with teaching assistants.
  • A newsletter providing information and ideas related to SEN and Inclusion.
 
 
 
Support for interventions to raise attainment at Wave 2 and Wave 3

Support for inclusive provision within the classroom
 
Advice/training regarding:
 
  • Differentiation
  • Learning styles
  • Effective IEPs and alternatives to IEPs
  • Using ICT to support the development of basic skills
  • Using ICT as a tool for curriculum access
  • Using signs and symbols for pupils who need visual support for their learning
